According to statistics, in 2023, the city was home to 84 universities and colleges with approximately 1.68 million at-school college students. The number of overseas talents working in Guangzhou ranks among the top three in China. State-owned enterprises under the municipal government had established a total of 793 R&D institutions at various levels, including 60 national-level R&D platforms. The city is also home to over 13,500 high-tech enterprises and more than 200,000 technology-based innovative firms. The total area of incubator clusters, represented by the Guangzhou Science and Technology Innovation Base, reached nearly 10 million square meters.
